An apostille on an Arizona document is issued by the Arizona Secretary of State. If your record was issued in Arizona, or your document was notarized by an Arizona-commissioned notary, Arizona is the only authority that can certify it, wherever you happen to live.

Arizona-specific things worth knowing
- The notary must be Arizona-commissioned. A document notarized in Nevada or California goes to that state, even if you live in Phoenix.
- Marriage records come from the clerk of the superior court in the county where the licence was issued, not from Vital Records.
- Corporate filings come from the Arizona Corporation Commission, which is unusual: most states keep these with the Secretary of State.
- Mexico is the most common destination, and usually requires a certified Spanish translation. Ask the receiving office whether a Mexico-registered perito traductor is required.
- Certified copies only. Photocopies and hospital certificates are rejected by the state.

Arizona Apostille: common questions
Can I just mail my document or turn up without booking?
No. Please book first. The mailing instructions at the end of the booking give you the address to use and the order number to send with your documents. An unannounced envelope or visit has no order attached to it, which is how documents get delayed.
I live outside Arizona but my document is from Arizona. What do I do?
Mail it to us, or have us retrieve a certified copy. The document has to be certified by Arizona regardless of where you live, and you do not need to travel here.
Where do I get an Arizona marriage certificate?
From the clerk of the superior court in the county where the licence was issued, not from the Department of Health Services. We can retrieve it if that is easier.
Can a mobile notary come to me?
Yes, anywhere in Arizona. That is often the simplest route for a power of attorney or a single status affidavit, since the document has to be signed in front of the notary.
My document is going to Mexico. Do I need a translation?
