National Apostilles and Authentications is at 66 Pearl St, Suite 230, Portland, ME 04101, on Pearl Street in downtown Portland. Our hours are 8:00am to 9:00pm, seven days a week, and you can reach us on (771) 777-4807.

Maine apostilles come from the Secretary of State in Augusta at $10 per signed document. The state quotes ten to fifteen business days for its own processing, one of the longer turnarounds in New England, so plan for it.

An apostille is issued by the authority in the state that produced or notarized your document, so where you live makes no difference to which office it goes to. Send us a scan before you commit and we will confirm the route and whether your copy will actually be accepted, at no charge.

Portland specifics worth knowing

  • This is Portland, Maine. A document notarized in Portland, Oregon goes to the Oregon Secretary of State instead. We handle both, but they are different routes.
  • Maine apostilles come from Augusta, not from any Portland office.
  • Plan for ten to fifteen business days at the state alone.
  • Town clerks hold vital records, as well as the state CDC office.

Apostille Services in Portland, ME: common questions

Where exactly are you?

66 Pearl St, Suite 230, Portland, ME 04101, on Pearl Street in downtown Portland. Our hours are 8:00am to 9:00pm, seven days a week. Every order starts online, and your documents reach us by mail or, where the document allows it, as an uploaded scan.

How do I get my document to you?

Book online first. Upload a scan where the document allows it, or mail the original using the instructions at the end of the booking, which give you the address to use and the order number to send with it.

Can I just mail my document without booking?

No. Please book first. An unannounced envelope has no order attached to it, which is how documents get delayed.

My document is from another state. Can you still help?

Yes. We handle all fifty states and federal documents. Your document goes to whichever state issued or notarized it — only the document travels, not you.

How much does it cost?

From $119 per document including the government fee, or $159 for a birth, marriage or death certificate or another state-issued record. Notarization, translation and return shipping are priced separately and shown in your total before you pay. Nothing is added at checkout.

What if my destination is not a Hague Convention member?

Then an apostille will not be accepted and the document needs full embassy legalization instead. The country checker answers it in one click.
